The AuroFlow™ lateral flow test strips are designed for the detection of a broad range of contaminants in raw, commingled cow’s milk. These rapid tests meet or exceed the sensitivities required to adhere to EU standards for 11 major sulfonamides (Table 1) and 8 fluoroquinolones (Table 2). These stateof-the-art tests also use novel binding proteins which eliminate the need for a heating block. Validation reports are available showing the efficacy of the tests in both room temperature and cold milk. The fast, simplified protocol can be seen in Figure 1.

Simple Interpretation of Results

When the signal at the T-line is more intense than the signal at the C-line, the milk sample is negative for presence of residues. A signal at the T-line which is equal to or less intense than the signal at the C-line indicates a contaminated milk sample.

AuroFlow™ Sulfonamide Strip Test Kit

The AuroFlow™ Sulfonamide Strip Test Kit is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect sulfonamide antibiotic residues in raw commingled cow’s milk. Examples of sulfonamide antibiotics and their limits of detection using the AuroFlow™ Sulfonamide Strip Test Kit are shown in Table 1.

AuroFlow™ Fluoroquinolone Strip Test Kit

The AuroFlow™ Fluoroquinolone Strip Test Kit for Milk is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect fluoroquinolone antibiotic residues in raw commingled cow’s milk with detection limits of this kit meeting all of the EU MRLs for fluoroquinolones. This state-of-the-art test uses a broad-spectrum antibody capable of specifically detecting a range of fluoroquinolone residues.

AuroFlow™ Aflatoxin M1 Strip Test Kit

The AuroFlow™ Aflatoxin M1 Strip Test Kit is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect Aflatoxin M1 residues in raw commingled cow’s milk at 0.5 ppb in 10 minutes.

AuroFlow™ Melamine Strip Test Kit

The AuroFlow™ Melamine Strip Test Kit is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect melamine residues in raw, commingled cow’s milk and reconstituted milk powder. This simple two-step test requires no sample preparation and is designed for rapid field use or reference lab settings. Using the Detekt RDS-Reader (see page 30), melamine can be detected at 50 ppb; visually 100 ppb can be detected.

The QuickSTAR™ Strip Test Reader is a patented ruggedized handheld lateral flow testing system which provides rapid quantitative assay results and increases testing throughput and efficiency. The unit features a rechargeable lithium battery and touchscreen menu driven interface which provides users test results in less than 10 seconds. The unit is compatible with a wide array of pre-programmed test types and is software upgradeable to accommodate additional assays. All results, including the actual test and control line images, are saved and can be automatically transferred to a desktop computer using the supplied Data Manager Software Suite. This Strip Reader has been approved for use with all of Bioo Scientific’s AuroFlow™ Strip Tests.

This rapid microwell test determines the concentration of protein in milk and other milk products such as cream, ice cream, powered milk and chocolate drinks. The assay detects the specific binding of milk proteins to dye molecules. This detection is fundamentally different than that of some other protein determination methods (such as the Kjeldahl method) which detect protein via nitrogen and are vulnerable to contamination of amine containing impurities such as melamine. The MaxSignal® No-Mel Milk Total Protein Assay Kit provides accurate, proven results even in the presence of high levels of melamine.

The MaxSignal® Urea Enzyme Assay Test is a practical choice for regulatory agencies and food processors to determine urea levels in dairy products, allowing them to readily address the consumers’ concerns about food integrity. The assay utilizes urease, a metabolic enzyme, to specifically detect urea in fluids. The MaxSignal Urea Enzymatic Assay Kit provides rapid, accurate, proven results even in complex liquid mixtures. The limit for detection is 20 ppm urea in milk samples. The linear range of the assay is 20 - 100 ppm of analyte.

The MaxSignal® Dairy Product Pasteurization Verification Kit is a colorimetric enzyme assay that confirms the pasteurization of milk, cheese and dairy products. Milk contains readily detectable levels of an enzyme called alkaline phosphatase. The inactivation of milk alkaline phosphatase occurs at a higher temperature threshold than the threshold for pasteurization. Therefore observation of loss of alkaline phosphatase activity in heat-treated milk samples indicates that pasteurization has occurred. As such, inactivation of milk alkaline phosphatase is the now the universally accepted indicator for successful pasteurization of dairy products. This simple enzyme-based assay determines the inactivation of alkaline phosphatases in testing samples.

Bioo Scientific has added to its line of simple, quick and fully quantitative ELISAs for mycotoxins with the introduction of two new MaxSignal® Aflatoxin M1 ELISA Kits; one with increased speed and other with increased sensitivity. Both of these kits are designed to simplify the analysis of dairy products for aflatoxin M1 contamination. The sensitive version of the MaxSignal Aflatoxin M1 ELISA Kit (Cat # 1060-05) offers sensitivity of 5 ppt (0.005 ppb) directly in milk samples. The rapid version (Cat # 1060-02) can be completed in only 30 minutes offering a sensitivity of 100 ppt (0.1 ppb) for milk and cheese samples. Both of these kits do not require any extraction process for milk samples.
